This decision was taken at a meeting between the UNF allies and Local Government and Provincial Councils Minister Vajira Abeywardena.
The Minister had said in its election manifesto the UNF had pledged that laws would be introduced to hold elections to the nine PCs on one day and that the party had also pledged to hold both provincial and local government bodies on one day.
The UNF leader would now ask the legal draftsman to prepare the necessary legislation as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, it has been decided to appoint a select committee to hold the provincial council elections under the previous system.
The decision to submit the proposal to set up a select committee was made on a request made by Election Commission Chairman, Mahinda Deshapriya. (Yohan Perera)
