The United Kingdom told the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva yesterday that they welcomed the decision of Sri Lankan Government to return more land to its people, and to establish an Office for Reparations.

Speaking at the 40th Session of the UN Human Rights Council, Foreign Office Minister Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon said they encouraged Sri Lanka to implement in full the commitments made to this Council to secure long-term reconciliation.

He said the UK remains committed to strengthening human rights, both at home and abroad and that they remain committed to justice, accountability, and the rules based international system.
