Leader of the UK's Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn, said he was deeply concerned that the new government of Sri Lanka has said it would not implement the ‘vital’ UN resolution on accountability, justice and reconciliation.

In a video tweeted wishing the Tamil community in view of Thai Pongal on Wednesday, Mr. Corbyn said the Labour Party will always stand by the Tamil people, wherever they may be in their pursuit of true peace and justice.

“Thai Pongal is also a time for us to remember the sacrifices made by the Tamil people for their human rights, peace and justice in Sri Lanka. Your community and your families have suffered immensely, and you deserve answers so that we ensure that atrocities you have endured never happen again,” he said.

“I hope you have a very happy Pongal and I give my best wishes for 2020 to Tamils all around the world,” he also said.

Mr. Corbyn thanked the Tamil community in the UK for the many important contributions it has made and continues to make all over the country.
