Two women aged 24 and 27 have been killed by their husbands in two separate incidents in Ampara and Ginigathhena yesterday, police said.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the 24-year old woman was hacked to death by her 33-year old husband in Uhana, Ampara, while a 27-year old woman was murdered by her 34-year old husband in Ginigathhena.
"There is an alarming increase in murders of spouses in the families and the husbands have become perpetrators.
Therefore the police are going to initiate a special programme at police station level in order to resolve family dispute as early as possible and the Police Children and Women Bureau units would be instructed look into these issues and to take prompt action in order to resolve family disputes," he said.
