When considering the COVID-19 related data issued by the Epidemiology Unit and experts, there is a gap of two to three months between Sri Lanka and the overall Global propensity, Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) said.
Addressing the media, GMOA Editor Dr. Haritha Aluthge said though the number of COVID-19 positive cases reported globally is on the decline, the decreasing number of deaths will be shown after two weeks.
He said globally, 900,000 positive cases are being reported daily but now it has come down to 400,000 with a percentage of 17.
"With the advent of Winter Season, the global COVID-19 positive cases reported daily are on the decline. The similar scenario applies to our country too," he said.
Therefore, risk communication should be done correctly and accurately, Dr. Aluthge said.
"The first COVID positive patient was found on March 11, 2020, while the pandemic was spreading globally. We came to the highest number of COVID-19 infections by May," he said.
While considering the facts, he said our country is lagging behind the Global overall propensity.
Therefore, to show the decline in the number of patients in the country would come to effect at least by the end of April, Dr. Aluthge said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
