The Attorney General’s (AG) Department today told the Court of Appeal that the two special Police teams from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), headed by an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), have been deployed to investigate the importation of 6,000 swords during the period of the heinous Easter Sunday suicide attack.

When the writ petition filed by the Colombo Archbishop His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith seeking an order from the security forces to conduct a formal inquiry into the above matter, representing the AG’s Department, Senior State Counsel (SSC) Dr Awanthi Perera brought the attention of the Court that the two teams of CID officers have been appointed under the instructions of IGP C.D. Wickremaratne.

Accordingly, the bench comprising Court of Appeal Justices Arjuna Obesekera and Mayadunne Correa postponed the hearing of the petition till May 6.

The bench also directed President’s Counsel Sanjeewa Jayawardena to respond whether the petitioner will be continuing with the hearing of the petition or not on the same date. (Yoshitha Perera)
