Two killed, three injured when trishaw collided with police jeep

A 48-year-old man and his mother were killed while his wife and two daughters were injured when their three-wheeler collided head on with a jeep attached to the Katupotha Police at the 10th mile post on the Wariyapola- Katupotha Road this morning.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the five persons of the same family were in the three-wheeler which was heading towards Anuradhapura at the time of the accident.

The injured woman (39) and two daughters aged 9 and 13 were admitted to the Kurunegala Hospital.

DIG Rohana said the police jeep collided with the three-wheeler when it was returning from a raid.

The Police Constable driver was also injured and admitted to the Katupotha Hospital.

The Spokesman said the Constable was arrested in connection with the accident.

The deceased were identified as residents Veyangoda.

DIG Rohana said a special investigation has been launched into the incident by the SSP Kuliyapitiya.
