Two special hot-line numbers 1917 and 1997 have been introduced by the Sri Lanka Police to provide information on crimes and toxic narcotics, Police Spokesman Jaliya Senaratna said.

He said the calls received on these numbers will be monitored by a secret unit at the police headquarters and the numbers will be active from tomorrow.

Information could be provided to the 1997 hot-line to report on toxic drugs, activities that could disrupt public peace, large-scale corruption, organized crimes and gang activities and extortion, the Spokesman said.

He said 1917 hot-line number can be used to provide information on the illicit assets of criminal gang members or other fraudulent activities. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
