Two duty-free employees nabbed with gold worth more than Rs.20 mn at BIA

Two Sri Lankans duty-free shopping complex employees were arrested with some Gold Jewellery, Gold Biscuits worth more than Rs.20 million while they were smuggling them out to from the airport last morning, Customs Media Spokesman and Additional Director General Sunil Jayarathne said. 

He said the youth, who work for a shop that sells toys and garments were arrested by the customs officers at the airport, the Media spokesman said.

One of the suspects aged 25 was a resident of Danowita while the other 26-year-old suspect was from the Ragama area.

During the raid, the customs officers found Gold Jewellery, Gold Biscuits and Gold bars weighing 3.103kg hidden in their trouser pockets and strapped around their waists.

The detection was made by Customs Assistant Superintendents M. G. D. Dilhara, W. M. M. P Dharmarathne, P. W. K de Lanka, D. R. S. B. Dasanayake, H. G. L. Samantham and W. H. K. H. Perera at BIA. 

Investigations were carried out by Customs Superintendent T. Loganathan and his team under the supervision of Deputy Directors S. P. Arukkoda and D. P. M Goonawardena as per the directives of Customs Director Ms. R. P Gankewela. (T.K.G. Kapila)
