Bus services belonging to the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) and National Transport Commission (NTC) has been advised to start two buses at the start of each journey from today, the Transport Ministry said.

State Minister of Transport Dilum Amunugama told the Daily Mirror that the new service will be introduced to add extra buses during office and school opening and closing hours.

It will enable people to travel maintaining social distances in view to prevent spreading of COVID-19, the State Minister said.

He also said the IGP has been instructed to arrest crew members of buses transporting passengers in addition to the new normal seating capacity under COVID-19 guidelines as well as failing to adhere to bus fare revision. Any bus operators who violate this law will face legal action, he added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
