A Sri Lankan man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 32-year-old German woman at a hotel in Marine Drive in Kollupitiya.
Police said the woman had lodged a complaint with the Kollupitiya Police on Sunday that she was drugged and raped by a man who claimed to be her boyfriend.
According to the police, the suspect and the victim had reportedly consumed alcohol at a restaurant in Kollupitiya before they checked in at a hotel in Marine Drive.
It was reported that the victim's father is a Sri Lankan national.
According to the complaint, the German woman was drugged and raped allegedly by the man who is a resident of Kandy.
The Police arrested the suspect and he was released on bail after being produced in Court on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Tangalle Police launched an investigation into an alleged rape of another German woman by a three wheeler driver at a hotel In Tangalle.
Police said the suspect who is a tourist guide was staying with the German woman at a hotel in Tangalle.
She had complained with the Police that she was allegedly raped by the local guide on Saturday.
The woman was admitted to the Tangalle Hospital while the suspect had fled the area.
Police said investigations revealed that the suspect is a resident of Ella, Bandarawela. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
