Trial-at-Bar remands Ali Roshan and others

The Trial-at-Bar in the Colombo High Court yesterday had remanded S.N. Roshan, alias Ali Roshan, and seven others until the end of the case over the alleged illegal possession of five elephants during 2012-2015 without a valid license. The judges present were Vikum Kaluarachchi, Dammika Ganepola, and Adithya K. Patabandi.

Following the serving of the indictments on the accused, Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris had objected over releasing the accused on bail.

The AG had filed indictments based on 33 counts including trafficking of elephants, conspiracy to trafficking, unlawful possession of elephants, and retention of stolen public property under the Fauna and Flora Ordinance, Penal Code and the Public Property Act.

The accused also included - H. Nishantha Dammika, K. Chandana Kumara, G. A. Sashika Chanuka, P. G. Jayalath, H. Priyangika Sanjeewani, Upali Padmasiri, R. Damith Chathuranga. (Shehan Chamika Silva)
