Trains on strike: TU warns to continue if no demands met

9 April 2021 02:02 pm

The Railway trade union has launched a strike against the move to appoint a new General Manager for the Railway department, replacing the acting General Manager (GM), Locomotive Engine Operators' Union (LEOU) said.

LEOU Secretary Indika Dodangoda said they wanted the current GM retained and not to appoint a new official to the post.

“We began the strike from 2.00 today. We will hold discussions with the Transport Minister to arrive at a satisfactory conclusion to this matter.

However, if the discussions fail, we would not hesitate to continue strike from tomorrow.

There won’t be new trains operating from this afternoon. However, the trains, which had already left the Fort Railway station would reach their destination. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
