The three CCD Sub Inspectors who had allegedly maintained contact with notorious drug kingpin Mohommad Najim Mohammad Imran alias Kanjipani Imran had been transferred to Jaffna, Mullaitivu and Mannar by the Police Headquarters Special Investigations Unit, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said today.

He said the three sub-inspectors were transferred to ensure impartial investigations into the allegations levelled against them without any interference.

The special investigation was launched into a complaint lodged by the Secretary of the Sinhala Ravaya Organisation Ven. Magalkande Sudaththa Thera, who claims that several officers of the Colombo Crimes Division maintain close ties with underworld figure Kanjipani Imran being detained by the CCD.

The initial inquiry was launched under the supervision of the Western Province Senior DIG and the Senior DIG of the Mount Lavinia Police Division. After the initial inquiry, the case was handed over to the Police Headquarters Special Investigations Unit. Ven. Sudaththa Thero had also handed over a letter recently to the Presidential Secretariat requesting a report on the investigations of Kanjipani Imran. Kanjipani Imran is alleged to have engaged in drug racketeering and masterminded several contract killings from his hideout in Dubai. After being arrested by Dubai police along with Makandure Madush, he was extradited several months ago. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
