The Colombo High Court yesterday indicted former Chief Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) Ananda Samarasekera on charges of concealing evidence in the killing of rugby player Wasim Thajudeen.
Dr. Samarasekera appeared before High Court Judge Manjula Tillakaratne yesterday in answer to the summons issued on August 16.
Attorney General Dappula de Livera served the indictments under Section 198 of the penal code. Dr. Samarasekera had ruled that Thajudeen's cause of death was a fire caused by an accident.
However, after a second postmortem examination by a medical committee, it was revealed that he had died from injuries caused by a blunt object and fire.
Thajudeen’s charred body was found in the passenger seat of a car near Shalika grounds in Narahenpita.
The AG accused Dr. Samarasekera of removing evidence and delaying reports of the investigation in the hope of covering up the killing.
