Tendency of road traffic accidents -10 deaths reported yesterday: Ajith Rohana

A tendency of road traffic accidents was observed again in the country where ten people have died of road accidents only yesterday, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said today.

He said seven people have died of fatal accidents occurred yesterday (17) and three people who had been admitted to hospitals on Wednesday (16) due to road accidents  have also succumbed to their injuries yesterday reporting ten deaths bringing the total number of death reported yesterday to ten.

The DIG said, according to statistics, ten fatal accidents were reported regularly before the Covid-19 pandemic and a similar situation has arisen again in the country.

He said massive operations have been launched by the police and traffic police throughout the country specially during the weekend to arrest drivers for over-speeding, drunk driving and drivers violating road rules.
