The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has said it is prepared to hold talks with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on the concerns of the Tamil community but are yet to receive an invitation for discussions either with the President or the Prime Minister, TNA MP Mavai Senathirajah told Daily Mirror.
He said his party's decision to meet the President came in the wake of his inaugural speech after taking his oaths in Anuradhapura last week where the President said he was ready to work with all communities including the Muslims and the Tamil.
The TNA supported NDF candidate Sajith Premadasa at the November 16 presidential election saying Mr. Premadasa was a leader with "clean hands".
Some of the matters which the TNA hoped to discuss with the President include an acceptable political solution to the national question within a united, undivided, indivisible country, the issue of missing persons, the issue of persons in custody, the release of lands, resettlement and rehabilitation and the implementation of commitments made by the ruling governments both locally and internationally.(Jamila Husain)
