Sustainable Development Bill: Northern PC not in favour

The Northern Provincial Council had informed Parliament that it was not agreeable to the proposed Sustainable Development Bill, and the Eastern Provincial Council had decided to postpone the consideration of the Bill till after the constitutional reforms were implemented, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya announced yesterday.

He said the Central, North Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Western and Uva Provincial Councils had given their consent to the bill but proposed amendments. The North Central Provincial Council had expressed its consent for the Bill without amendments. The Speaker said the views of the provincial councils would be referred to the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs. (Yohan Perera)
