The Ava group had put up notices in the Jaffna University premises warning that the students who were involved in ragging newcomers would be punished and called for immediate stop of any ragging activities in the university.

Several posters had been put up in a building of the arts faculty on Tuesday night and in reply, student unions of the Jaffna and Eastern universities had also put up notices saying that no such ragging is carried out on the newcomers in the university.

The notice posted by the Ava group said it was reported that newcomers to the university are subject to inhuman ragging based on cast and therefore, such ragging should be stopped. (Romesh Madushanka)
