SriLankan Airlines today issued a statement clarifying recent news reports on a damaged meal tray on board a SriLankan Airlines flight.

It said that there were no defects reported prior to departure of the flight and that the incident occurred during the journey.

“The footage that is being aired clearly shows the meal tray getting detached when the passenger attempts to pull it down. We regret the inconvenience experienced by the passenger onboard. Further, the airline ensures that all steps will be taken to avoid recurrence of such incidents. We further elaborate that due to aircraft rotation, this aircraft, which only has economy class cabins, was deployed on the route. As such, all business class passengers were informed beforehand and arrangements have been made to promptly facilitate their refunds.

SriLankan Airlines reiterates that the well-being and safety of its passengers is its first and foremost priority and that it takes every measure necessary to provide comfort and care for passengers, at all times. The airline has taken immediate measures to restore this and will continue to ensure utmost comfort throughout the journey,” the statement said.
