A group of Sri Lankan expectant mothers who are currently stranded in a hospital in India have requested Sri Lankan authorities to help them return to the island.

The group of seven expectant mothers who have been admitted to a hospital in India for various treatments have been stranded in the hospital for weeks, unable to return to the island due to the curfew imposed by the government of India in order to contain the spread of Covid-19.

"I came to Prashanth Hospital in India for treatment a few months ago. Seven expectant mothers including myself, are currently stranded here. We are facing numerous difficulties and it's affecting both our physical and mental wellbeing," One expectant mother said in a video statement. "Please consider our state, if not the wellbeing of our unborn children and help us return to Sri Lanka as soon possible," she added.
