Special dengue prevention programme in Colombo from today

4 June 2020 03:30 am

A special three-day dengue prevention programme will be launched in the City by the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) and the Police Environmental Protection Division from today to the (6) to coincide with the islandwide curfew, Mayor Rosy Senanayake said.

The programme has been launched in line with instructions given to local government bodies and state institutions as per a recommendation by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to contain the spread of dengue following the rainy season.

Accordingly, on June 4, 5 and 6, Public Health Inspectors, other health officials and officials of the Solid Waste Management Department will inspect all houses within the municipality and take stern legal action against the house owners if mosquito breeding places are found.

The Solid Waste Management Department officials are also expected to take separate action on mosquito breeding grounds.

Mayor Senanayake requested residents to make an effort to keep houses and gardens clean and destroy mosquito breeding places.

“I earnestly request all of you to extend your cooperation to our officials to make this dengue prevention programme a success,” she said.(Lahiru Pothmulla)
