Special Opp. to take down illegal cut-outs, banners and posters: Police

A special operation was launched yesterday by the Police to take down illegal cut-outs, banners and posters displayed for the General Election.

Police said that the programme commenced under the directives of the Acting Inspector General of Police, in view of creating a free and fair election.

Accordingly, the programme will be carried out in all Police divisions.

Police will remove illegal posters related to the election displayed on buses or other vehicles at police roadblocks and mobile patrol.

"Police will take action if the police find any illegal posters of candidates, number, advertisement or painting promoting a candidate or political party on any vehicle," police said.

All Deputy Inspector Generals of Police have been informed to supervise the programme.

The Police requested the public to inform the nearest Police Station of such illegal cut-outs, banners and posters.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
