Panadura North Police have arrested four men and two women in connection with sexually exploiting a 13-year old girl from Panadura.
Police said the girl's mother was also among the arrested and she had allegedly engaged the girl in prostitution with her consent.
A police team rescued the girl and taken her to the hospital after the Senior DIG in charge of the Western Province Deshbandu Tennakoon received information that the underage girl was being sold to adults for money.
Investigations revealed that a businesswoman had cheated the girl's mother and had given her money to exploit the girl to people to quench their sexual thirst.
Police found that the girl was reportedly abused in four places.
The arrested men, aged 42, 45, 52 and 84 were identified as residents of Panadura, Keselwatta and Gorakana.
The suspects including the businesswoman will be produced in court.
Police said the girl would be produced before the Panadura Judicial Medical Officer for an examination. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
