’Sithamu’ farmer Assocs. to be implemented in North: Mahindananda

The ‘Sithamu’ farmer associations, a concept of the new government to resolve the issues faced by the farmers through modern technology and methods, is to be implemented in the North, Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage had announced.

The minister who made this announcement during his recent visit to North said farmers in the North would be given concessions under this programme.

It was for the first time in four decades that an agriculture minister competent in speaking Tamil visited the North, according to the Ministry. The Minister had discussed issues faced by the farmers in the area during the visit.

Minister of Fisheries Douglas Devananda, state ministers D. B. Herath, Mohan de Silva and Shashindra Rajapaksa and officers attached to Agriculture Ministry participated in the programme.
