UNP Headquarters Sirikotha is expected to be relocated after it has been found that there are some geological issues pertaining to its present location.

When contacted by Daily Mirror UNP Assistant Leader Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said the matter is still under discussion.

“We had an initial discussion with  the party leader President Ranil Wickremesinghe on the matter but no final decision has been made," Kariyawasam said.

Kariyawasam confirmed that the initial proposal was to relocate the party headquarters to a land in Rajagiriya where  the present office of Jathika Wathu Sevaka Sangamaya is located. “The plan is to hand over the Rajagiriya land to an investor to construct a multi story building and re-locate Sirikotha in two or three stories once the new building is completed,” he said.

The present Sirikotha building was constructed during the early 1980s when the party was headed by Late President J. R. Jayewardene.(Yohan Perera)
