Showers above 100 mm on the cards at multiple places

Colombo (Daily Mirror) - Meteorological authorities have issued a weather warning for several provinces in Sri Lanka, predicting heavy showers exceeding 100 mm in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, North-Western, and Western Provinces.

The announcement also notes that showers or thundershowers are likely to occur in various locations across the remaining provinces of the island after 01:00 p.m., with the Southern Province experiencing morning showers.

The cause of this weather pattern is attributed to a low-pressure area over the South-East Bay of Bengal, which has intensified into a depression. As of the latest update, it is situated approximately 550 kms from Trincomalee, at a latitude of 9.5°N and longitude 86.0°E. Meteorologists anticipate this depression to intensify further, becoming a deep depression by December 02, 2023, and evolving into a cyclone by December 03, 2023.

The projected path of the cyclone indicates a West-North-Westward movement, nearing the north coast of Sri Lanka and progressing towards the north Tamil Nadu coast by December 04, 2023.

Authorities urge residents in the affected regions to stay informed about the evolving weather conditions and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
