The Elections Commission (EC) has gazetted the name of United People’s Freedom Alliance member Shantha Bandara to fill the vacancy in the national list. Earlier, he resigned from his national list seat to re-enter parliament through the Kurunegala District; filling the vacancy created by the demise of MP Salinda Dissanayake. However, he could not do so because of a legal issue. Instead, D.B. Herath was nominated for the vacancy in the district list.

Afterwards, the UPFA decided to re-nominate Mr. Bandara to fill the slot in the national list that fell vacant after his previous resignation. Besides, the Election Commission has announced the name of Mr. Herath as an MP to fill the vacancy caused by Mr. Dissanayake's death, and the name of Mano Sirisena to fill the vacancy in the Matara District UPFA list created by the death of Chandrasiri Gajadeera.
