Shani files FR petition seeking reinstatement

Former CID Director Shani Abeysekara, who was interdicted, today filed a Fundamental Rights petition in the Supreme Court seeking an order that he be restored to the position of Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Sri Lanka Police.

Former CID Director also sought an order directing the Acting IGP to restore the security arrangements to the level provided to him prior to November 21, 2019, until the hearing and final determination of the petition.

Shani Abeysekara is further seeking a compensation of Rs. 10 million from the respondents for violating his Fundamental Rights.

He has cited the Acting IGP, members of the National Police Commission, Chairman of National Elections Commission, Defence Secretary and several others as respondents.

The petitioner stated that his transfer from the position of Director of the CID and his interdiction had been carried out in an illegal manner.
