Out of all the suicide bombers who blasted themselves, ilham Ahmed Ibrahim, the second suicide bomber of Shangri-la-hotel had the calmest mindset during the blast,observing the CCTV footages Senior Consultant Psychiatrist Dr. neil Fernando yesterday informed the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCOI) probing Easter Sunday attacks.
While observing the CCTV footages before the Commission Dr. fernando said that Ilham was conducting the attack a few minutes after Zahran Hashim blasted himself at the restaurant in Shangri-la-hotel, and while that time Ilaham was aware that his colleague was no longer alive.
“Even in that situation, ilham was more focused towards his target and he was blasting himself near the elevator when people were trying escape from the hotel,” he said. The representative from the Attorney General’s (AG) Department had further questioned the witness regarding the blast conducted by Fathima Jiffry, the wife of Ilham Ahmed at the Dematagoda residence.
Explaining the situation Dr. fernando said that Ilham’s wife Fathima Jiffry must have had a hopeless situation and she had to blast herself with her children since she was aware that she could not escape from the situation. “If we are to analise her situation further, we have to conduct a psychological autopsy. It is the most valuable tool of research on completed suicide mission.this method involves collecting all available information of the deceased via structured interviews of family members and through phone records. Having access to all these information, we’ll be able to reconstruct her mind,” Dr. Fernando said. (Yoshitha Perera)
