Several DMT staffers engaged in illegal activities on annual transfer list: Minister Amunugama

While clarifying the number of staff members to be transferred from the Motor Traffic Department (DMT) due to various illegal activities, Transport State Minister Dilum Amunugama said several employees were added to the annual transfer list.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror, the state minister said the media reports on transferring more than 600 staffers were not true.
“Altogether, there are nearly 600 employees, the number includes staff members from all DMT branches across the country. If the transfers meant for all, they all will get into the punishment transfer list. That is not fair,” he said.
However, one leading media institution had misquoted the figure after having spoken to the DMT Commissioner-General.
There is no truth behind that, he said. Minister Amunugama said several employees who had links with various nefarious activities, such as soliciting bribes were the prime causes for the staffers being transferred from DMT offices around the country.
Those staff members had been monitored and spoken to about their illegal act for a year, Minister Amunugama said.
He said the transfers will focus on the employees who have been posted in one particular DMT office for a longer period, as well as those who had engaged in various nefarious activities.
The transfers will be made parallel to their annual transfer procedures and no exact date has been mentioned. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
