Seven-member committee appointed to probe tense situation in Parliament

A seven-member committee has been appointed by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana to look into the incidents which took place in Parliament on Wednesday.

The Speaker announced in Parliament that the committee is expected to make recommendations on the actions to be taken with regard to the incident and to prevent recurrent of such incidents in the future.

The Committee chaired by Deputy Speaker Ranjith Siyambalapitiya comprises of Minister Chamal Rajapaksa, Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, State Minister Susil Premajayantha, MP Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, MP Imthiaz Bakeer Markar, MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara and MP M.A. Sumanthiran.

Pandemonium reigned in Parliament on Wednesday when the ruling party and opposition SJB MPs confronted each other trying to determine as to who should move the adjournment debate on the Presidential Commission report on political victimization.
