Senior Journalists’ son assaulted for hooting at police

A senior journalist of a national daily newspaper had complained to the Police Chief about a brutal assault on his son by the Anamaduwa Police Traffic OIC and some constables for allegedly hooting at them latter on October 22 evening.

Senior Courts Reporter A. J. A. Abeynayake in his complaint stated that the victims were taken to the Anamaduwa Police Station by two constables who had trailed their vehicle bearing registration No.NW CBK 1879 and had abused them in obscene language.

Subsequently they had been brutally assaulted while in police custody, the journalist had further stated in his complaint.

He appeal to the Inspector General of Police C. D. Wickremeratne to conduct an impartial inquiry into the matter and to bring the culprits to book.

Journalist Abeynayake had also lodged complaints regarding the incident to the Attorney General, Sri Lanka Human Right’s Commission, Secretary of the Bar Association and to the Secretary of the National Police Commission.(T. Farook Thajudeen)
