Self Defence - Won't hesitate to use my official weapon: Punchinilame

22 January 2019 09:44 pm

UPFA MP Susantha Punchinilame said today he would not hesitate to use his official weapon in self defence should there be a threat to his life.

He told parliament that a 71-year-old man had attempted to attack him with a knife in Kantale, Agbopura while on a official visit to his electorate.

Raising a privilege issue, he said even though he complained to the police hot line 119, there was no response and he later complained to the Agbopura police.

"I was rescued by my security personnel," the MP said.

He said the police personnel assigned to MPs would be hesitant to carry out their duties as their jobs would be at risk.

"Minister Arjuna Ranatunge's bodyguards are in trouble by trying to help him. If such things happen our security personnel will not carry out their duties in fear of their jobs," the MP said. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
