Scheduled train strike called off: LEOU

22 February 2021 08:55 pm

The Locomotive Engine Operators' Union (LEOU) has decided to suspend a trade union action that was scheduled to take effect from midnight today.

Union Secretary Indika Dodangoda said a discussion in this regard is set to take place with the Transport Minister Gamini Lokuge at the Ministry.

He said a special committee will be appointed during the meeting with the Minister to review the latest development.

Also hoping to focus on the halted railway projects currently underway  with the assistance of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Mr. Dodangoda said.

The Railway Trade Unions earlier planned to launch a 24-hour token strike tonight against the decision to hand over the reconstruction of a segment of the Northern Railway Line between Maho Junction and Omanthai without consulting the local engineers. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
