Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa is to collect the stone that were hurled at his meeting in Ratmalana on Tuesday and to use them to lay the foundation for the community centre he intends constructing in the area, an SJB MPs said today.

SJB MP Eran Wickramaratne told a media briefing that Mr. Premadasa will use these stones as the way his father did some years ago. “Late President Ranasinghe Premadasa used the stones which were pelted at him when he was having a meeting to form the Sri Sucharitha Movement to construct the Sucharitha Hall. Sajith Premadasa will do the same,” Mr. Wickramaratne said.

Meanwhile SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara urged the police to act impartially and arrest the attackers. “We urge the IGP and the police in general to act impartially and arrest the wrong doers,” he said.

“The attack on Mr. Premadasa’s meeting in Ratmalana is an indication that country’s democracy is being challenged even before the proposed 20th Amendment is enacted. It is also a violation of a person’s right of expression,” Mr. Madduma Bandara added.

MP Mujibur Rahman who also participated in the press conference focused on the 20th Amendment, questioned as to why some allies of SLPP who identify themselves as patriotic are silent about the proposal made under the 20th Amendment to allow a person with dual citizenship, even to hold the post of presidency of this country.
