The Police Special Task Force (STF) raided a large scale fuel pilferage racket carried out at the Central Expressway which is currently under construction.

The Gonahena Police Special Task Force  raided the long-running racket to pilfer fuel from vehicles used for the expressway construction run by a Chinese company.

Seven suspects have been arrested  with a bowser filled with fuel along with five other vehicles at the Central Expressway entrance between Veyangoda and Wandurawa.

It was revealed that the fuel was stealthily pumped from the vehicles into an oil tank mounted on the back of a cab.

The cab which had been used for the racket for a long time, had entered the expressway without permission and had removed the fuel with the help of several other vehicles.

The arrested suspects and the vehicles were handed over to the Veyangoda Police for further investigations.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
