The annual financial statement of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) will be handed over to the Election Commission - this has never been done by any political party in Sri Lanka, SLPP National Organiser Basil Rajapaksa said today.

He said this was the first time that a political party had done something like this.

"As a party, we are keen to promote transparency. The financial statement will be distributed among members of the party which functions under the guidance and leadership of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa. We have the ability to win any election which will be held this year," Mr. Rajapaksa said.

He said the SLPP has been bestowed with the task of not only twinning elections but to develop the country as well.

“As a party, we are committed to working harder than the others. People expect a more people-friendly service from us. The country needs a new vision today because society is crippled with fraud and corruption. There is no rule or law and incidents of gender-based violence has increased," Mr. Rajapaksa said.
