SL to contribute to SAARC emergency fund on COVID-19

Sri Lanka will contribute to the SAARC emergency fund proposed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to combat the outbreak of COVID-19, a minister said.

Foreign Relations Minister Dinesh Gunawardane told Daily Mirror that the amount would be announced soon after the Cabinet decided.

He said Sri Lanka had communicated this to New Delhi. 

“We will announce our amount soon. The Cabinet has to do decide it,” he said .
 
PM Modi arranged a videoconference with the leaders of SAARC countries recently. India pledged US $ 10 million. Besides, Bangladesh has committed US $ 1.5 million, Nepal US$ 1 million , Afghanistan US $ 1 million, the Maldives US $ 200,000,and  Bhutan US $ 100,000. (Kelum Bandara)
