The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB)  is  ready to support an interim government without President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, MP Kabir Hashim said today.

Speaking to the media during the SJB protest in Kaduganwa, the MP said his party will support a right kind of interim government.

“We don’t want to support a puppet interim government.  SJB Leader and Leader of Opposition needs the right kind of powers to bring in necessary reforms to revive the economy.  He has the support of experts to perform this task. This is why we say we don’t want to support an interim government which comprises President Rajapaksa. We want an interim government without Rajapaksas,” he said.

Mr. Hashim said Mr. Premadasa is ready to support an interim government headed by anyone other than the Rajapaksas.

“Either Rajapaksa’s should resign from or SJB should be given a mandate by the people to govern and resolve  the present crisis,” he also said.

Earlier on Tuesday, Mr. Premadasa said he is not willing to support interim governments which  are formed through political deals. “ Do not get deceived by political deals,” he said speaking to media at Dalada Maligawa before starting the SJB protest march from Kandy to Colombo. (Yohan Perera)
