SIS Constable promoted posthumously

Sithum Alahapperuma, the 22-year-old Police Constable attached to the State Intelligence Services (SIS), who died following an accident in Bambalapitiya on June 11, has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant by Acting IGP C.D. Wickramarathna today.

Alahapperuma died on Sunday morning while receiving treatment at the ICU of the National Hospital following the road accident in Bambalapitiya.

He foiled the recent robbery at the National Hospital where cash worth over Rs 7.9 million was robbed at gunpoint from the cashier on June 9.

Two police constables attached to the SIS including Alahapperuma, who were on duty at the hospital, pursued the robber and made the arrest. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
