Rs.12.35 mn paid to victims in Easter Sunday massacre

The Ministry of Education says Rs.12.35 million has been paid to the families of the children and the parents who were killed in the Easter Sunday massacre.

Accordingly, Rs. 5.6 million has been paid to 24 children and 28 of the parents who died while Rs. 6.75 million has been paid to 43 parents of 45 children the Education Director of Suraksha Insurance Trust Fund, Renuka Pieris said.

Till the 30th of last month a total sum of Rs.532,976,108 (Rs.53.3 million) has been paid for those who have become eligible for aid under the Suraksha Insurance Scheme.

There are about 4.5 million students at the age of 5 to 21 year from 11,240 schools in the country who are eligible for benefits from the Suraksha Insurance scheme.

Under this scheme Rs.200,000 for an indoor patient of government or private hospital, Rs.20,000 for an outdoor treatment and also Rs.200,000 for patients in fatal condition are paid.(Dayaseeli Liyanage)
