There is a risk of youth who were graduating from Arabic colleges as Moulavis in the country being unemployed due to the limited availability of standard Madrasa schools and mosques to employ them, it was informed on Thursday at the PCoI probing the Easter Sunday attacks.
Testifying before the Commission, Director of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs (DMRCA) Adam Bawa Mohammed Ashroff said that the Arabic colleges in the country face a multitude of challenges in preparing students to suit the rapidly modernising societies and emerging globalised economies.
“There is a considerable increase in students who were graduating as Moulavis from the Arabic colleges and most of these students were unemployable. The reason for that is limited availability of standard Madrasa schools and mosques. In fact, these students will realise that they would be unemployable after they become adults,” he said.
Mr. Ashroff said that there has to be a change in the current Madrasa education by focusing on modernisation and integration of the global process of change. (Yoshitha Perera)
