Rice must be sold under controlled price from tonight: Dudley Sirisena

All rice varieties should be sold under the government approved controlled price from tonight, the President of Rice Millers Association Dudley Sirisena said today.

Mr Sirisena is also the Chairman of the world renowned Araliya Group of Companies.

In a press conference today, he said that all rice millers should release their stocks to the market at the control price.

He requested the rice retailers not to accept any stock less than the controlled price with immediate effect.

He also stated that the people would be fully responsible for maintaining the market price of rice beginning today.

"People have the authority to ask for rice under the controlled price, and if not, they can make complaints to any of the responsible authorities such as Gramasewaka or the police," he said.

According to the gazette notification issued on May 2, 2022, by the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) had imposed the Maximum Retail Prices for rice as follows: White/ Red Nadu – Steamed/ Boiled – Local Rs. 220 per Kg. (excluding Mottaikarupan and Attakari)

White/ Red Samba – Steamed/ Boiled – Local Rs. 230 per Kg.(excluding Suduru Samba)

Keeri Samba (Local) Rs. 260 per Kg (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
