Requests for extra provisions upsets budget: Ravi

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake is reported to have notified the Cabinet that there was an adverse impact on the budget deficit because of the repeated requests for additional provisions.

In a paper submitted to the Cabinet, he states that the revenue collection of the government has been lower than expected this year with the total government revenue estimated for the year being Rs.2,047 billion while the total expenditure has been Rs.2,787 billion.

According to the report submitted to the Cabinet, Rs.81 billion has been sought by the ministries in addition to the budget allocations and as a result, it is said one per cent of the total expenditure originally approved being cut. (Kelum Bandara)
