United National Party (UNP) Assistant Leader Ravi Karunanayake said he would file legal action against Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara for making false allegation against him.

Mr. Bandara had earlier alleged that Mr. Karunanayake complained against the misuse of the Central Cultural Fund (CCF) by SJB leader Sajith Premadasa who was the then subject minister. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa appointed a committee which held Mr. Premadasa responsible for the misappropriation of monies in the CCF.

Mr. Karunanayake told a news conference today that he would file a defamation case against Mr. Madduma Bandara .

He said Mr. Madduma Bandara had claimed that I had lodged a complaint on the alleged misuse of monies in the CCF. “I am giving 24 hours to Mr. Madduma Bandara to reveal the date on which I lodged the complaint. If not I will file a defamation case against him asking for Rs.2.5 billion as damages,” Mr. Karunanayake said.“ I have no reason to make any complaint against anyone in SJB."

Meanwhile, he alleged that some funds belonging to the CCF had been spent during the presidential election which was illegal. By Yohan Perera
