Ranjan Ramanayake files motion in SC

Former Minister Ranjan Ramanayake, who was sentenced to four-year rigorous imprisonment over contempt of court, has filed a motion in the Supreme Court to survey the conviction.

A three-Judge bench comprising Supreme Court Justices Sisira de Abrew, Vijith Malalgoda, and Preethi Padman Surasena had consistently conveyed the decision on January 12.

Through the motion former Minister Ramanayake further requested to file a revision application regarding the verdict. The motion was filed through Attorney-at-Law Dinesh Vidanapathirana along with the relevant documents, affidavits were submitted to the court.

The case was filed against the former state Minister over Contempt of Court charges for making defamatory remarks against the judiciary on August 21, 2017.

Currently, he is detained at the Agunakolapelassa prison. (Yoshitha Perera)
