Ranil to Singapore for conference

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will leave for Singapore today to participate in the Indian Ocean Conference organised by the Indian Foundation which will get under way on September 1, 2016.

According to sources from the Prime Minister’s office, Mr. Wickremesinghe will be one of several leaders who will participate in the conference. Others who are expected to participate are the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato Seri Dr Ahamad Zahid Bin Hamidi, The former president of the Maldives, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom,and US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, Nisha Biswal.

Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sushma Swaraj and Japanese Foreign Affairs Minister Kishi Nobou will also participate in the event. Mr Wickremesinghe is expected to meet some of these leaders during the visit. (Yohan Perera)
