Railway strike from tonight: Railway Guards’ Union

Several Railway Trade Unions including the Railway Guards' Union have decided to launch a strike from tonight against the decision to reconstruct a part of the Northern Line between Maho Junction and Omanthai and not taken any action to replace the vacant General Manager post of the Railway Department (GMR).

Railway Guards' Union Secretary P.M.P. Pieris said the guards and locomotive drivers will join in the strike from midnight today.

The official said the Government has decided to hand over the re-construction of the railway line between the Maho Junction and Omanthai.

However, the Sri Lanka Station Masters' Union said they will not join in the trade union action tonight.(Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
