The Maharagama Police had arrested a radiographer attached to the Apeksha ( Cancer treatment ) Hospital in Maharagama for forcibly locking two female nurses inside the radiology room.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said that the police are looking to arrest another radiographer over the incident.

He said the female nurses lodged a complaint with the police that they were locked inside the radiology room for a period of one hour.

Earlier, the nursing staff of the Apeksha Hospital in Maharagama has strongly objected to the hospital administration's attempt to cover up the arrest of the two radiographers.

They alleged that the two nurses were locked inside the radiology room and the electricity was turned off by the two radiographers on March 17.

The two nurses then made a desperate attempt to open the door which failed. It was reported that the mobile phones had no signal inside the room.

The two nurses were able to get out after a minor employee of the hospital opened the door.

The two nurses then informed the head of the unit and the hospital administrator about the incident.

But the nurses alleged that the hospital administration attempted to cover up the incident.

The nursing staff pointed out that exposure to the radiology material could lead to high risk of cancer, genetic mutations, or even serious illness.

The hospital staff earlier urged Health Minister and Ministry Secretary to conduct investigations into the incident and take appropriate action.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
